吳濁流故居

 

已經記不起來怎麼會來這了. 買了捷安特的單車後 開始積極的練習. 在新竹初階就是飛鳳山, 然後就是佛陀世界. 大概就在關西,新埔的路上吧,看到了這個路標,才繞進去看看.

首先看到的是"吳濁流紀念館"跟"新竹文學館"兩塊牌子,告訴遊客你沒有走錯.這傳統的三合院建築就是吳濁流先生的故居.

三合院正身跟兩邊的護龍都維護的不錯.看的出來是大戶人家. 正身寫著「至德堂」,這是這一支吳氏的堂號.
我的大學同學是'載'字輩的,比吳濁流先生要晚兩代. 這一輩裡有一位黑貓中隊的飛行員-吳載熙. 他的事蹟網路上很容易查的到.都是厲害的人物.
周日到苗栗西湖鄉吃烤雞-柴燒卡帕尼,回程剛好看到"吳濁流藝文館"就繞進來看看. 
原來吳濁流先生在他23歲那年(1922年)因論文過激,被調到了四湖公學校(今西湖國小)當教員. 後輾轉任教於四湖公學校五湖分教場(今五湖國小),前後共計15年(吳濁流先生因此將西湖鄉當做是他的第二故鄉). 難怪這藝文館就設在五湖社區活動中心的二樓. 周日午後裡面只有一當值人員,為了我還特地開燈.十足的可以感受到那種被貶到偏鄉的感覺!

北回歸線不在23.5度

 


北回歸線不在23.5

不信你到東石漁港旁的地標打開Google Maps 看一下經緯度,緯度是23.45 不是23.5!


或許你會說沒那麼準啦! 緯度的每度的距離大約相當於111km, 0.05 5.55公里. 北邊的鰲鼓濕地-東石自然生態展示館是確實的23.5.

比較正確的說法是米蘭科維奇循環Milankovich cycles)地球離太陽的距離不是固定的,是個橢圓形.所以北回歸線也不是一直在23.5, 而是在22.1 24.5度中,  4.1萬年來回一次!目前在23.44度左右逐年遞減中.簡單說每年緩慢地向南移動15公尺,也就是說東石漁港旁的地標(上圖)算是蠻準的!尤其是端午節前後接近夏至 正午基本上是立桿無影的.

這幾年各縣市都在佈自行車道,有機會到南部,就來試試串聯雲林、嘉義及臺南的水圳綠道。從苗栗下來,火車票買到嘉義. 這是有偷懶的,照說該買到彰化,但天氣很熱,又不想騎到天黑才到善化,所以就選了嘉義。

剛出嘉義火車站,先接上北回自行車道。這是舊軌道改成自行車道和步道混搭的,兩側與中間是有幾公分的落差的. 我一不小心就摔車了, 還好就是小擦傷.剛過了北回歸線就開始下起了大雨,本想撐到南靖火車站搭火車, 騎到小七上龍門市就騎不下去了.傷口被雨水弄糊了,眼鏡也看不清了.休息了一下,騎到台糖南靖冰廠吃冰休息,雨也停了.之後切到白河,才接到台南的水圳綠道。

不知道為何不直接叫嘉南大圳堤岸自行車道?大概是名子太長了. 水圳綠道是嘉南大圳北幹線.嘉南大圳南幹線叫山海圳綠道自行車道。

水圳綠道自行車道.官方報導是國家級自行車道. 沿著百年嘉南大圳興建.全長88公里.南起烏山頭水庫.北至雲林縣濁水溪的林內鄉.嘉南大圳北幹線自行車道斥資1.9億元.從烏山頭水庫的分岐工作站.沿北幹線堤岸建置自行車道.護欄.標示牌.休憩點.植裁.到嘉義新港北崙彩繪村(北港溪畔).共長約47.7公里.

不知道國家級自行車道是甚麼標準,騎快一點巔的很厲害.是適合慢活閒晃式的親子騎? 只是一路沒遮陰,可能是要再等幾年吧!騎了半天就我一個人. 偶而一兩個跑步散步的,至少沒車沒紅綠燈就是。

台南還是有很多其他的自行車道 希望日後還有機會一遊。

eat less, live longer

 

There are studies show a calorie-restricted diet may slow aging in healthy adults. But can we simply and safely say eat less, live longer? I believe there is distance away. However, in general, that’s the case (for most people living in the developed countries).

This study is based on 220 adults some cutting as much as 25% or 500 calories of 2,000 calories daily diet and some don’t over 24 weeks. By measuring certain DNA biomarkers in the blood over time, the researchers can measure the rate of aging. The researchers found that people who cut their calories slowed the pace of their aging by 2% to 3%, compared to people who were on a normal diet.

One may argue if a person cannot fully enjoy the life and live happy, what’s the point of living longer. However, that is not the point of the study. Over the course, human have studied the aging and are able to accelerate the process in lab mice, even have some success in reversing the aging. To be ale to apply on human, that could be another decade away. For now, it is clear over-eating is as bad as over-drinking alcohol.

Another arguable aspect is the calorie. This is not a good indicator for nuitrition intake. But that should be another blog or blogs to elabrate that. Before than, you may want to read Gary's book below. Enjoy!
